Present,

The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Her Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 247 of the Local Government Act 1972(1), is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Local Authorities (Armorial Bearings) (No. 2) Order 1989 and shall come into force on 1st December 1989.

2.  Subject to article 3 of this Order, the town council of Barnstaple may bear and use the armorial bearings which were immediately before 1st April 1974 borne and used by Barnstaple borough council.

3.  Armorial bearings shall not be borne or used pursuant to article 2 of this Order until they have been exemplified according to the laws of arms and recorded in the College of Arms.

This Order authorises Barnstaple town council to bear and use the armorial bearings of the former Barnstaple borough council.
