The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 17(2) of the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989(1) (“the Act”), and of all other enabling powers, hereby makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1989.

2.  The provisions of the Act specified in the Schedule to this Order shall come into force on 8th November 1989.

SCHEDULEPROVISIONS OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC (DRIVER LICENSING AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS) ACT 1989 COMING INTO FORCE ON 8TH NOVEMBER 1989

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force on 8th November 1989 the provisions of the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989 specified in the Schedule to the Order. Such provisions have particular relevance to the driving of public service vehicles by persons who are not licensed to drive such vehicles under section 22 of the Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981 (c. 14) but who have made an application for the grant of a licence and who have passed the appropriate test of competence to drive.
