The A6 Trunk Road (Market Harborough Bypass) Detrunking Order 1989

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980(1), and now vested in him(2), and of all other enabling powers:

1.  On the operative date–

(1) each of the lengths of trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order and shown on the deposited plan by broad striped hatching and by the reference letter opposite the description in that Schedule shall cease to be a trunk road;

(2) the lengths of trunk road in respect of which the reference letters A and D are stated shall become classified as a classified road;

(3) the length of trunk road in respect of which the reference letter C is stated shall become classified as a principal road.

2.  In this Order–

(i)“principal road”

as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State;

(ii)“classified road”

as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is not a principal road for the purposes of enactments or instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads but is a classified road for the purpose of every enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State and which does not specifically refer to their classification as principal roads;

(iii)“the deposited plan”

means the plan numbered HA10/EM50 marked “The A6 Trunk Road (Market Harborough Bypass) Detrunking Order 1989” signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY;

(iv)“the operative date”

means the date on which the Secretary of State notifies the County Council of Leicestershire that the trunk road to be constructed by the Secretary of State in pursuance of The A6 Trunk Road (Market Harborough Bypass) Order 1989 is open for through traffic.

3.  This order shall come into force on 26th October 1989 and may be cited as The A6 Trunk Road (Market Harborough Bypass) Detrunking Order 1989.

SCHEDULELENGTHS OF TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE A TRUNK ROAD

The lengths of trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road are those lengths of the A6 trunk road which are situated between the following points:–

Reference Letter

1.  From a point 80 metres north west of the junction with Melton Road (B6047) to the southern extremity of the junction with the B4036 Fairfield Road.

2.  From the junction with the B4036 Fairfield Road to the north corner of The Square in Market Harborough.

3.  From the north corner of The Square in Market Harborough to the junction with St Mary’s Road.

C

4.  From the junction with St Mary’s Road to a point 530 metres east of the junction with Shrewsbury Avenue.
