The A23 Trunk Road (Brighton Road, Croydon) (Prescribed Routes) Order 1989

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(1) (“the 1984 Act”), and of all other enabling powers, and after consulting the Secretary of State for the Home Department in accordance with section 7(6) of the 1984 Act, hereby makes the following Order:–

1.  This Order may be cited as the A23 Trunk Road (Brighton Road, Croydon) (Prescribed Routes) Order 1989 and shall come into force on 14th August 1989.

2.  In this Order:–

“Brighton Road” means that length of the London–Brighton Trunk Road (A23) in the London Borough of Croydon known as Brighton Road;

“the Purley Road island site” means the smaller of the two triangular island sites in Purley Road at its junction with Brighton Road; and

“the Banstead Road island site” means the triangular island site in Banstead Road at its junction with Brighton Road.

3.  No person shall cause or permit any vehicle proceeding northeastwards in Brighton Road to turn left into Banstead Road other than by passing to the left of the Banstead Road island site.

4.  No person shall cause or permit any vehicle in Purley Road to turn left into Brighton Road other than by passing to the left of the Purley Road island site.

5.  No person shall cause or permit any vehicle to make a right turn from Purley Road into Brighton Road.

6.  Nothing in this Order shall apply to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a constable in uniform or of a traffic warden.
