The Water Authorities (Successor Companies) Order 1989

The Secretary of State for Wales, in relation to the Welsh Water Authority, and the Secretary of State for the Environment, in relation to the other water authorities, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by section 4(2) of the Water Act 19891 and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:–

This Order may be cited as the Water Authorities (Successor Companies) Order 1989 and shall come into force on 9th August 1989.

The company mentioned in the Schedule hereto in relation to a water authority which is so mentioned is hereby nominated as the successor company to that authority.

The Water Act 1989 provides for the appointment of successor companies wholly owned by the Crown to take over the functions of the water authorities established in England and Wales by the Water Act 1973 (c. 37) so far as they relate to the supply of water and the provision of sewerage services. The 1989 Act further provides that their regulatory functions shall vest in a new National Rivers Authority created by the Act.

This Order nominates the successor companies.
