The Health and Medicines Act 1988 (Commencement No. 6) Order 1989

In exercise of powers conferred by section 26(1) of the Health and Medicines Act 19881 and of all other powers enabling me in that behalf, I hereby make the following Order:–

This Order may be cited as the Health and Medicines Act 1988 (Commencement No. 6) Order 1989.

In this Order –

  • “the 1958 Act” means the Opticians Act 19582;

  • “the 1988 Act” means the Health and Medicines Act 1988.

Days appointed2

1

20th July 1989 is the day appointed for the coming into force of section 14 of the 1988 Act (duties to be performed on sight-testing) so far as it inserts subsections (1), (3), (8) and (9) of section 20B of the 1958 Act.

31st July 1989 is the day appointed for the coming into force of section 14 of the 1988 Act so far as it relates to subsections (2), (4), (5), (6) and (7) of section 20B of the 1958 Act.

Revocation3

The Health and Medicines Act 1988 (Commencement No. 5) Order 19893 is hereby revoked.

This Order brings into force the provision of the Health and Medicines Act 1988 which relates to the duties to be performed on sight testing. The provision is brought into force in stages, for some purposes on 20th July 1989 and for remaining purposes on 31st July 1989. This Order revokes an earlier defective commencement order.
