In exercise of the powers conferred by section 22(4) of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979(1), I hereby approve the Rules made by the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting and set out in the Schedule hereto.

This Order may be cited as the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors (Health Visitors—Admission to Training) Amendment Rules Approval Order 1989 and shall come into force on 20th February 1989.

the nurses, midwives and health visitors act 1979

The United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting in exercise of the powers conferred on it by sections 2(3) and 22(1) of the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Act 1979(1) and all other powers enabling it in that behalf having, in accordance with section 22(3) of the Act, consulted the National Boards and representatives of groups likely to be affected by these Rules, hereby make the following Rules:

Citation and interpretation

1.—(1) These Rules may be cited as the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors (Health Visitors—Admission to Training) Amendment Rules 1989.

(2) In these Rules “the principal Rules” means the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Rules 1983(2).

Amendment of the principal Rules

2.—(1) Rule 22 of the principal Rules (conditions of admission to training for registration) shall be amended in accordance with the following provision of these Rules.

(2) Sub-paragraph (b) of paragraph (1) shall be omitted.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

The Rules approved by this Order, and made by the United Kingdom Central Council for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting, further amend the Rules approved by the Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors Rules Approval Order 1983 as they relate to the conditions of admission to training for registration of health visitors.

The Rules approved by this Order delete the requirement that a person should have certain midwifery qualifications or have completed certain maternity care or obstetric training before being admitted to training for registration as a health visitor.
