The Social Security Act 1986 (Consequential) Amendment Regulations 1988

Coming into force

The Secretary of State for Social Services in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 84(1) and 89(1) of the Social Security Act 19861 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, after agreement by the Social Security Advisory Committee that proposals to make these Regulations should not be referred to it2, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement1

These Regulations may be cited as the Social Security Act 1986 (Consequential) Amendment Regulations 1988 and shall come into force on 22nd June 1988.

Modification of section 63 of the Social Security Act 19862

Section 63 of the Social Security Act 1986 (annual uprating of benefits) shall be modified—

a

by adding at the end of subsection (10) the words “or which are additions to income support under regulations made under section 89 of this Act”3; and

b

by inserting after subsection (10) the following subsection—

10A

Any increase under this section of any of the sums which are additions to income support mentioned in subsection (10) above shall take the form of a direction that any such sum shall be increased by a specified percentage of its amount apart from the order.

These Regulations modify the Social Security Act 1986 to enable the uprating of the transitional additions to income support payable under regulations made under section 89 of that Act.
