The European Parliamentary Elections (Day of By-election) (Hampshire Central Constituency) Order 1988

Whereas on 28th September 1988 I was notified of the vacancy of the seat of the representative in the European Parliament for the constituency of Hampshire Central by that Parliament under Article 12(2) of the Act concerning the election of the representatives of the European Parliament by direct universal suffrage annexed to the decision of the Council of the European Communities dated 20th September 1976(1);

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred upon me by paragraph 3(3) of Schedule 1 to the European Parliamentary Elections Act 1978(2), I hereby make the following Order:—

1.  This Order may be cited as the European Parliamentary Elections (Day of By-election) (Hampshire Central Constituency) Order 1988 and shall come into force on 1st November 1988.

2.  The by-election to fill the vacancy in the European Parliamentary constituency of Hampshire Central shall be held on 15th December 1988.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order appoints 15th December 1988 as the day on which the by-election to fill the vacancy in the European Parliamentary constituency of Hampshire Central shall be held.

1978 c. 10; the words“European Parliamentary” were substituted for the words“European Assembly” in the provision concerning the citation of this Act and the words“European Parliament” were substituted for the reference to the Assembly of the European Communities in paragraph 3 of Schedule 1 to this Act by section 3 of the European Communities (Amendment) Act 1986 (c. 58) on the coming into force of the Single European Act on 1st July 1987.
