This order appoints as the date on which the code of practice for the tape-recording of police interviews under section 60(1) of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 will come into operation.
When the code is in operation, it will apply to the tape-recording of police interviews in any area where tape-recording is required by virtue of an order under section 60(1)(b) of the Act of 1984. (By virtue of section 121(1) and (2) of that Act, section 60(1)(b) may be brought into force for different areas on different dates.)
The code of practice will be published by Her Majesty’s Stationery Office: copies may be obtained from Government bookshops.
