The Secretary of State for Social Services, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 23(3)(b), 27 and 56(4) of the Registered Homes Act 1984(1), and all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:—
1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Nursing Homes and Mental Nursing Homes (Amendment) Regulations 1988 and shall come into force on 1st August 1988.
(2) In these Regulations any reference to a numbered Schedule is a reference to the Schedule bearing that number in the Nursing Homes and Mental Nursing Homes Regulations 1984(2).
2. Schedule 1 (fees to accompany applications) shall be amended as follows—
(a)in paragraph 1 for “£550.” there shall be substituted “£600”.; and
(b)in paragraph 2 for “£350.” there shall be substituted “£380.”.
3. Schedule 3 (annual fees) shall be amended as follows—
(a)in paragraph 1 for “£20” there shall be substituted “£22”; and
(b)in paragraph 4 for “£175.” there shall be substituted “£190.”.

These Regulations increase the fees payable under the Nursing Homes and Mental Nursing Homes Regulations 1984.
The fee to accompany an application for registration is increased from £550 to £600, and the fee to accompany such an application on a proposed change of ownership, where there are no other changes in relation to the home, is increased from £350 to £380 (regulation 2); the annual fee payable in respect of a home in which beds are provided for the use of patients at night is increased from £20 to £22, multiplied by the maximum number of patients in the homes; the annual fee payable in respect of a home in which no beds are provided for the use of patients at night is increased from £175 to £190 (regulation 3).
