The Local Government Act 1985 abolished the Greater London Council and metropolitan county councils. The Act consequently provides for the replacement in their areas of the existing structure and local development plans under town and country planning legislation by “unitary development plans”. This Order brings the provisions of the 1985 Act relating to unitary development plans into force in the county of Merseyside on 4th August 1988.
