In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 4(5) of the Affiliation Proceedings Act 19571, section 12B(2) of the Guardianship of Minors Act 19712, section 35(A)(2) of the Children Act 19753 and section 2(3) of the Domestic Proceedings and Magistrates' Courts Act 19784, I hereby make the following Order:

This Order may be cited as the Magistrates' Courts (Increase of Lump Sums) Order 1988 and shall come into force on 25th July 1988.

For the purposes of section 4(5) of the Affiliation Proceedings Act 1957, section 12B(2) of the Guardianship of Minors Act 1971, section 35A(2) of the Children Act 1975 and section 2(3) of the Domestic Proceedings and Magistrates' Courts Act 1978 the maximum amount of any lump sum required to be paid by an order referred to in any of those provisions is hereby fixed at £1,000.

This Order increases from £500 to £1000 the maximum amount a magistrates' court can award as a lump sum for maintenance in proceedings for affiliation, guardianship or custodianship orders, and in domestic proceedings under the Domestic Proceedings and Magistrates' Courts Act 1978.
