Citation and interpretation1.

This Order may be cited as the Disabled Persons (Services, Consultation and Representation) Act 1986 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1987.
(2)
This Order shall not apply to Scotland.
(3)
In this Order“the Act”means the Disabled Persons (Services, Consultation and Representation) Act 1986.
Day specified for the coming into force of certain provisions of the Act2.
The provisions of the Act specified in column 1 of the Schedule to this Order (which relate to the matters specified in column 2 thereof) shall come into force on 1st April 1987.

This Order brings into force on 1st April 1987 sections 4 (except paragraph (b)), 8(1), 9 and 10 of the Disabled Persons (Services, Consultation and Representation) Act 1986. The provisions impose a duty on local social services authorities to consider the needs of disabled persons for services under section 2 of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970; and to take into account the abilities of the carer of a disabled person; amend section 1(2) of that Act in relation to the provision of information by local authorities; and provide for consultation with organisations of disabled people before making appointments or co-options to certain bodies.
