CONSUMER PROTECTION

These Regulations implement Council Directive 85/577/EEC (OJ No.L372, 20.12.85, p.31) to protect the consumer in respect of contracts made at the doorstep or otherwise concluded away from business premises. They apply to contracts under which a trader supplies goods or services to a consumer and which are concluded during an unsolicited visit by a traderto the consumer’s home or to the home of another person; orto the consumer’s place of work.

The Secretary of State, being a Minister designated1 for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 19722 in relation to matters of consumer protection in respect of contracts negotiated away from business premises of the trader, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by that section and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:
