The Secretary of State for the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 1(7) and (8)(b) of the Derelict Land Act 1982(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and with the consent of the Treasury, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Wakefield (Derelict Land Clearance Area) Order 1987 and shall come into force on 19th October 1987.
2. In this Order, “the map” means the map marked “Map referred to in the Wakefield (Derelict Land Clearance Area) Order 1987” and signed by an Under Secretary in the Department of the Environment, which has been prepared in duplicate and of which one duplicate has been deposited, and is available for inspection, at the principal offices of the City of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council and the other has been deposited, and is available for inspection, at the offices of the Secretary of State for the Environment.
3.Section 1(1) to (6) of the Derelict Land Act 1982 shall have effect in relation to land in the locality shown bounded by the outside edge of a bold black line on the map as they have effect in relation to land in a development area or intermediate area.

The Secretary of State may pay grants under the Derelict Land Act 1982 towards the cost of acquiring, surveying and carrying out works on land which is derelict, neglected or unsightly. The maximum rates at which grants are payable in the case of development areas or intermediate areas are higher than the rates which are payable elsewhere. Grants may also be paid at the higher rates in localities specified by order.
This Order specifies for this purpose a locality in the area of the City of Wakefield Metropolitan District Council which is indicated on the plan below.
