Whereas a draft of this Order has been laid before Parliament in accordance with section 10 of the International Organisations Act 1968 (hereinafter referred to as the Act) and has been approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament:
Now, therefore, Her Majesty, by virtue and in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by sections 1 and 10(3) of the Act(1) or otherwise in Her Majesty vested, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Specialized Agencies of the United Nations (Immunities and Privileges) (Amendment) Order 1985. It shall come into operation on the date on which Annex XV to the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the Specialized Agencies of the United Nations(2) comes into force for the United Kingdom. That date shall be notified in the London, Edinburgh and Belfast Gazettes.
2. The Specialized Agencies of the United Nations (Immunities and Privileges) Order 1974(3) (hereinafter referred to as the Order) shall be amended by the addition at the end of Schedule 1 (international organisations to which the Order applies, and high officers of such organisations enjoying privileges and immunities under Article 15 of the Order) of the following:
“World Intellectual Property Organization
The Director-General
Any Deputy Director-General
Any official acting on behalf of the Director-General during his absence from duty”
3. The World Intellectual Property Organisation (Immunities and Privileges) Order 1968 is hereby revoked.

This Order amends the Specialized Agencies of the United Nations (Immunities and Privileges) Order 1974 by adding the World Intellectual Property Organization to the list of Specialized Agencies in respect of which that Order confers privileges and immunities. It will enable Her Majesty's Government to apply the provisions of the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the Specialized Agencies of the United Nations (Cmnd. 855) to the Organization. The Order will come into operation on the date on which Annex XV to that Convention (Cmnd. 7326) comes into force for the United Kingdom.
