The Secretary of State for the Environment as respects England and the Secretary of State for Wales as respects Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 65(2) of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979, hereby make the following order:—
1. This order may be cited as the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979 (Commencement No. 4) Order 1982.
2. Part II and (except in so far as it is already in operation) Part III of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979 shall come into operation in England and Wales on 14th April 1982.

This order brings into operation in England and Wales the provisions of Part II and (except in so far as they are already in operation) Part III of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979. Part II relates to archaeological areas, and Part III to miscellaneous and supplemental matters. The order brings the provisions in question into operation on 14th April 1982.
The following provisions of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979 are already in operation:
