http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1982/256/madeThe Hallmarking (Exempted Articles) Order 1982WestlawKing's Printer of Acts of Parliament2011-05-19HALLMARK This Order amends the provisions of paragraphs 12 and 14A and repeals paragraph 14B of Part II of Schedule 1 to the Hallmarking Act 1973 to make it clear that, for an article containing precious metal and other materials to be exempt from hallmarking under paragraphs 12 and 14A, it must also satisfy the conditions for hallmarking laid down in Part III of Schedule 2 to the Act. 1982 No. 256 HALLMARK The Hallmarking (Exempted Articles) Order 1982 Made 26th February 1982 Laid before Parliament 9th March 1982 Coming into Operation 31st March 1982 The Secretary of State in exercise of his powers under paragraph 1(1)(b) of Part IV of Schedule 1 to the Hallmarking Act 1973 hereby makes the following Order: 1 This Order may be cited as the Hallmarking (Exempted Articles) Order 1982 and shall come into operation on 31st March 1982. 2 Part II of Schedule 1 to the Hallmarking Act 1973 is hereby amended by the substitution for paragraphs 12 and 14A of the following paragraphs: 12 1 Subject to the provisions of this paragraph, any article containing only one precious metal, being a metal of minimum fineness and of a weight less than that specified in the following table:

platinum0.5 gram.
2 This paragraph does not apply to any article containing materials other than precious metal, unless the article satisfies the conditions for hallmarking of Part III of Schedule 2 to this Act.

14A 1 Subject to the provisions of this paragraph, any article, any precious metal in which is of minimum fineness, and which either— a contains gold and platinum but not silver, and the weight of the gold parts of which exceeds 50 per cent. of the total weight of the precious metals in the article, that total weight being less than 1 gram; or b contains silver and either gold or platinum or both gold and platinum, and the weight of the silver parts of which exceeds 50 per cent. of the total weight of the precious metals in the article, that total weight being less than 7.78 grams. 2 This paragraph does not apply to any article containing materials other than precious metal, unless the article satisfies the conditions for hallmarking of Part III of Schedule 2 to this Act. 3 Paragraph 14B of Part II of the said Schedule is hereby repealed.
