EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Carriage of Goods by Road Act 1965 gave effect in the United Kingdom to the Convention signed at Geneva on 19th May 1956 on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (Cmnd. 3455). The Carriage of Goods by Road (Parties to Convention) Order 1967 certifies who are the High Contracting Parties to the Convention and in respect of what territories they are respectively parties. The Carriage of Goods by Road (Parties to Convention) (Amendment) Order 1969 and the Carriage of Goods by Road (Parties to Convention) Order 1973 brought the principal Order up to date in relation to a number of States and territories for which the 1956 Convention had entered into force since the making of the principal Order. Since the 1973 Order was made Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Finland, the German Democratic Republic, Greece, Romania and Spain have become parties to the 1956 Convention. The present Order amends the principal Order accordingly and replaces the previous amending Orders.
