The Road Traffic Act 1974 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1974

The Secretary of State for the Home Department, the Secretary of State for the Environment, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 24(4) of the Road Traffic Act 1974 and according to their respective functions in relation to the provisions of that Act specified in this Order, hereby make the following Order:—

1.  This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic Act 1974 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1974.

2.  The provisions of the Road Traffic Act 1974 (hereinafter referred to as “the Act”) which are listed in column (1) of Schedule 1 to this Order and which relate to the matters respectively specified in relation to those provisions in column (2) of that Schedule shall (to the extent stated in that Schedule) come into operation on the 1st January 1975, and the provisions of the Act which are listed in column (1) of Schedule 2 to this Order and which relate to the matters respectively specified in relation to those provisions in column (2) of that Schedule shall (to the extent stated in that Schedule) come into operation on the 1st March 1975.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order brings into operation certain of the provisions of the Road Traffic Act 1974 on 1st January 1975 (see Schedule 1 to the Order which specifies these provisions and states their subject matter) and certain other provisions of that Act on 1st March 1975 (see Schedule 2 to the Order which specifies these provisions and states their subject matter).
