The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Her Majesty, in pursuance of the powers conferred on Her by sections 3(1), 6 and 8(5) of the Diplomatic Privileges Act 1964, or otherwise in Her Majesty vested, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Diplomatic Immunities Restriction (Revocation) Order 1972 and shall come into operation on 21st January 1973.

2.  The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of this Order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament, and as if this Order and the Orders hereby revoked were Acts of Parliament.

3.  The Orders mentioned in the Schedule to this Order are hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order, by revoking the Diplomatic Immunities Restriction Order 1956, as amended, removes restrictions on personal immunity from suit and legal process which were imposed on certain classes of persons connected with the envoys of the United States of America. After the coming into operation of this Order the enjoyment of immunity by these persons will be governed by the Diplomatic Privileges Act 1964.

All the other countries specified in the 1956 Order were deleted by previous amending Orders.
