At the Court at Buckingham Palace, the 22nd day of October 1969

Present,

The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Her Majesty, in pursuance of paragraph (c) of Schedule 2 to the Charities Act 1960 is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

The Open University is hereby declared to be an exempt charity for the purposes of the Charities Act 1960.

This Order may be cited as the Exempt Charities Order 1969 and shall come into operation on 1st November 1969.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Order declares the Open University to be an “exempt charitywithin the meaning of the Charities Act 1960. An exempt charity is not required to be registered with the Secretary of State for Education and Science and the Secretary of State cannot exercise any of his powers under that Act in relation to an exempt charity except at the request of the charity.
