The Superannuation (Rent Tribunals) Order 1965

The Treasury, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by section 98(5) and (9) of the Superannuation Act 1965, hereby make the following Order:—

Employment by a Rent Tribunal shall be added to the employments listed in Schedule 8 to the Superannuation Act 1965.

This article shall have effect in relation to employment by any Rent Tribunal as from the date on which that Tribunal was appointed.

In this Order the expression “Rent Tribunal” means a tribunal appointed in pursuance of section 1 of the Furnished Houses (Rent Control) Act 1946 or section 1 of the Rent of Furnished Houses Control (Scotland) Act 1943.

The Interpretation Act 1889 shall apply for the interpretation of this Order as it applies for the interpretation of an Act of Parliament.

This Order may be cited as the Superannuation (Rent Tribunals) Order 1965, and shall come into operation on 18th December 1965.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

Section 98(4) of the Superannuation Act 1965 provides that service in employments of the kinds listed in Schedule 8 to that Act shall be treated as service in the civil service of the State for the purposes of pensions and other superannuation benefits. This Order adds employment by a Rent Tribunal to the list in that Schedule. Under the powers of section 98(9), the Order has retrospective effect as from the date on which the relevant Rent Tribunal was appointed.
