ANIMALS;DISEASES OF ANIMALS

This Order, which extends the statutory definitions of “animals” in section 84(1) of the Diseases of Animals Act 1950 so as to include hares, and of “disease” in section 84(3) so as to include brucella suis and tularaemia, prohibits the importation into Great Britain of live hares except under licence of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food or the Secretary of State for Scotland.

The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and the Secretary of State, acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 1, 24, 33 and 84 of the Diseases of Animals Act 19501 (as read with the Transfer of Functions (Animal Health) Order 19552) and, as adapted to air transport, by section 11 of the Agriculture (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1954, and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby order as follows:—
