College Charter Act 1871

1 Short title.U.K.

This Act may be cited for all purposes as “The College Charter Act 1871.

2 Copy of college charter to be laid before Parliament.U.K.

A copy of any application for a charter for the foundation of any college or university, which may be referred by Her Majesty in Council for the consideration and report of any Committee of Her Majesty’s Privy Council, shall, together with a copy of the draft of the charter applied for, be laid before both Houses of Parliament [F1or, in the case of an application in respect of a college or university which will have its principal establishment in Scotland, before the Scottish Parliament] for a period of not less than thirty days before any such report shall be submitted to Her Majesty.

3 Definition of “college or university.”U.K.

In this Act the expression “college or university” shall include any institution in the nature of a college or university.
