Territorial extent and application
- Section 107 of this Act sets out the territorial extent of the Act, that is the jurisdictions in which the Act forms part of the law. The extent of an Act can be different from its application. Application is about where an Act produces a practical effect rather than where it forms part of the law.
- The provisions in this Act extend to England and Wales only.
- The provisions in this Act apply to England only, except for:
- Section 17 (Members of legislatures disqualified for being a mayor of a strategic authority) which applies to England and Wales;
- Section 63 (Mayors and Police and Crime Commissioners: supplementary vote system) which applies to England and Wales. Paragraphs 3 to 5 in the related Schedule 30, which concern the election of police and crime commissioners, also apply to England and Wales;
- Section 100 (Rent reviews and arrangements for new tenancies), and the related Schedule 37, which apply to England and Wales.
- Amendments and repeals made by the Act have the same extent as the provision being amended or repealed, except section 24 (regulation of provision of micromobility vehicles) and the related Schedule 7 which extend to England and Wales only (and apply in England only).
- See the table in Annex A for a summary of the position regarding territorial extent and application in the United Kingdom.
