<Pnumber>1</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>Arrangements made under section 16E by the safeguarding partners for a local authority area must include the establishment of one or more multi-agency child protection teams for the area for the purpose of providing support to the local authority in connection with the discharge of its duties under <Citation URI="https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1989/41/section/47" id="c00016" Class="UnitedKingdomPublicGeneralAct" Year="1989" Number="41" SectionRef="section-47">section 47</Citation> of the <Citation URI="https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1989/41/contents" id="c00017" Class="UnitedKingdomPublicGeneralAct" Year="1989" Number="41" SectionRef="contents">Children Act 1989</Citation> (duty to investigate where child at risk of significant harm).</Text>
</P2para>
</P2>

<Pnumber>2</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>The support referred to in subsection <InternalLink Ref="p00598">(1)</InternalLink> includes—</Text>
<P3>
<Pnumber>a</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>the co-ordination of assistance for the local authority under <Citation URI="https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1989/41/section/47" id="c00018" Class="UnitedKingdomPublicGeneralAct" Year="1989" Number="41" SectionRef="section-47">section 47</Citation><Citation URI="https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1989/41/section/47" id="c00019" Class="UnitedKingdomPublicGeneralAct" Year="1989" Number="41" SectionRef="section-47">(9)</Citation> of the <Citation URI="https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1989/41/contents" id="c00020" Class="UnitedKingdomPublicGeneralAct" Year="1989" Number="41" SectionRef="contents">Children Act 1989</Citation>, and</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>

<Pnumber>b</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>support of any other kind prescribed by regulations made by the Secretary of State.</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>
</P2para>
</P2>
<P2 id="p00622">
<Pnumber>3</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>A multi-agency child protection team is to consist of—</Text>
<P3 id="p00625">
<Pnumber>a</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>at least one of each of the persons mentioned in <InternalLink Ref="p00635">subsection (4)</InternalLink>, and</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>
<P3>
<Pnumber>b</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>such other persons as the local authority considers appropriate after consulting the other safeguarding partners.</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>
</P2para>
</P2>
<P2 id="p00635">
<Pnumber>4</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>The persons referred to in <InternalLink Ref="p00622">subsection (3)</InternalLink><InternalLink Ref="p00625">(a)</InternalLink> are—</Text>
<P3 id="p00641">
<Pnumber>a</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>a person, nominated by the local authority, with experience in education in relation to children;</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>
<P3 id="p00645">
<Pnumber>b</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>a social worker, nominated by the local authority, with experience in social work in relation to children;</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>
<P3>
<Pnumber>c</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>a registered health professional, nominated by an integrated care board for an area any part of which falls within the area of the local authority, with experience in the provision of healthcare in relation to children;</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>
<P3>
<Pnumber>d</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>a constable or relevant police employee who—</Text>
<P4>
<Pnumber>i</Pnumber>
<P4para>
<Text>is nominated by the chief officer of police for a police area any part of which falls within the area of the local authority, and</Text>
</P4para>
</P4>
<P4>
<Pnumber>ii</Pnumber>
<P4para>
<Text>has experience in child protection.</Text>
</P4para>
</P4>
</P3para>
</P3>
</P2para>
</P2>

<Pnumber>5</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>A person may be nominated under a particular paragraph of subsection (4) only if the person satisfies any requirements prescribed by regulations made by the Secretary of State for the purposes of <Citation URI="https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1989/41/section/47" id="c00021" Class="UnitedKingdomPublicGeneralAct" Year="1989" Number="41" SectionRef="section-47">that paragraph</Citation>.</Text>
</P2para>
</P2>
<P2>
<Pnumber>6</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>The requirements that may be prescribed under <InternalLink Ref="p00666">subsection (5)</InternalLink> include, in particular, requirements relating to a person’s qualifications or their experience so far as relating to the safeguarding and promotion of the welfare of children.</Text>
</P2para>
</P2>
<P2>
<Pnumber>7</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>Before making regulations under <InternalLink Ref="p00605">subsection (2)</InternalLink><InternalLink Ref="p00617">(b)</InternalLink> or <InternalLink Ref="p00666">(5)</InternalLink>, the Secretary of State must consult such persons (if any) as the Secretary of State considers appropriate.</Text>
</P2para>
</P2>
<P2 id="p00684">
<Pnumber>8</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>In this section—</Text>

<Text>“<Term>registered health professional</Term>” means a person on the register of one or more of the following bodies—</Text>

<Text>the General Medical Council;</Text>
</Para>
</ListItem>
<ListItem>
<Para>
<Text>the Nursing and Midwifery Council;</Text>
</Para>
</ListItem>
<ListItem>

<Text>the Health and Care Professions Council;</Text>
</Para>
</ListItem>
</OrderedList>
</Para>
</ListItem>
<ListItem>
<Para>
<Text>“<Term>relevant police employee</Term>” means—</Text>

<Para>
<Text>a person (other than a constable) who is—</Text>
<OrderedList Type="roman" Decoration="parens">
<ListItem>
<Para>
<Text>employed, or engaged to provide services, for the purposes of a body of constables, and</Text>
</Para>
</ListItem>
<ListItem>
<Para>
<Text>under the direction and control of a person who has the direction and control of a body of constables, or</Text>
</Para>
</ListItem>

</Para>
</ListItem>
<ListItem>
<Para>
<Text>a person who is—</Text>

<Text>employed by the Common Council of the City of London in its capacity as a police authority, and</Text>
</Para>
</ListItem>
<ListItem>
<Para>
<Text>under the direction and control of a chief officer of police;</Text>

</ListItem>
</OrderedList>
</Para>
</ListItem>
<ListItem>
<Para>
<Text>“<Term>social worker</Term>” means a person registered as a social worker in the register kept under <Citation URI="https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2017/16/section/39" id="c00022" Class="UnitedKingdomPublicGeneralAct" Year="2017" Number="16" SectionRef="section-39">section 39</Citation><Citation URI="https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2017/16/section/39" id="c00023" Class="UnitedKingdomPublicGeneralAct" Year="2017" Number="16" SectionRef="section-39">(1)</Citation> of the <Citation URI="https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2017/16/contents" id="c00024" Class="UnitedKingdomPublicGeneralAct" Year="2017" Number="16" SectionRef="contents">Children and Social Work Act 2017</Citation>.</Text>

<Title>Multi-agency child protection teams: co-operation</Title>

<Pnumber>1</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>If the conditions in <InternalLink Ref="p00748">subsection (2)</InternalLink> are met, the safeguarding partners for a local authority area and a relevant agency must together draw up a memorandum setting out how the relevant agency will work with the safeguarding partners to facilitate the operation of MACPT arrangements.</Text>
</P2para>
</P2>
<P2 id="p00748">
<Pnumber>2</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>The conditions are that—</Text>
<P3 id="p00751">
<Pnumber>a</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>the relevant agency is designated for the purposes of this section by regulations made by the Secretary of State;</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>
<P3>
<Pnumber>b</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>the safeguarding partners have notified the relevant agency that it is required to work with the safeguarding partners in drawing up a memorandum under this section.</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>
</P2para>
</P2>
<P2>
<Pnumber>3</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>Before making regulations under <InternalLink Ref="p00748">subsection (2)</InternalLink><InternalLink Ref="p00751">(a)</InternalLink>, the Secretary of State must consult such persons (if any) as the Secretary of State considers appropriate.</Text>

<Text>In this section, “<Term>MACPT arrangements</Term>” means arrangements made by the safeguarding partners in accordance with <InternalLink Ref="p00596">section 16EA</InternalLink><InternalLink Ref="p00598">(1)</InternalLink> for the establishment of a multi-agency child protection team.</Text>

<Text>the reference to at least one person, nominated by the local authority, with experience in education in relation to children, and</Text>

<Text>were a reference to at least one such person or social worker for each of the local authorities which is a safeguarding partner for the local authority area, and</Text>

<Text>each such person or social worker is to act, for the purposes of the multi-agency child protection team to which they are nominated, only in relation to the area of the local authority which nominated them.</Text>
