TargetSubClass="unknown" Context="main" Format="default"><P1group><Title>Security for payments to HMRC</Title><P1><Pnumber PuncAfter="">70A</Pnumber><P1para><P2><Pnumber>1</Pnumber><P2para><Text>The Commissioners for Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs may by regulations make provision for and in connection with requiring the giving, by prescribed persons and in prescribed circumstances, of security for the payment of amounts that a person is or may be liable to pay to the Commissioners under this Chapter.</Text></P2para></P2><P2><Pnumber>2</Pnumber><P2para><Text>Regulations under this section must provide that security may be required only where an officer of Revenue and Customs considers it necessary for the protection of the revenue.</Text></P2para></P2><P2><Pnumber>3</Pnumber><P2para><Text>Regulations under this section must provide for a right of appeal against—</Text><P3><Pnumber>a</Pnumber><P3para><Text>decisions to require security to be given;</Text></P3para></P3><P3><Pnumber>b</Pnumber><P3para><Text>decisions as to the amount, terms or duration of any security required.</Text></P3para></P3></P2para></P2><P2><Pnumber>4</Pnumber><P2para><Text>A person commits an offence if—</Text><P3><Pnumber>a</Pnumber><P3para><Text>the person fails to comply with a
