Immigration Act 2016

Commencement

  1. Subsections (3) to (5) of section 61 come into force on the day this Act receives Royal Assent. These subsections confer a power to grant immigration bail while an individual is liable to detention, whether or not the power to detain can be exercised.
  2. The immigration skills charge measure in section 85 comes into force two months after Royal Assent.
  3. The remaining provisions of the Act will come into force by means of commencement regulations made by the Secretary of State. Subject to parliamentary approval of the Act and any necessary secondary legislation, it is intended to begin commencing the provisions of the Act from summer 2016.
