CHAPTER 1General powers of authorities
8Interpretation of Chapter
(1)
In this Chapter—
F1“CCA” means a combined county authority established under section 9(1) of the Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023;
F1“combined authority” means a combined authority established under section 103 of the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009;
“the general power” means the power conferred by section 1(1);
“local authority” means—
(a)
a county council in England,
(b)
a district council,
(c)
a London borough council,
(d)
the Common Council of the City of London in its capacity as a local authority,
(e)
the Council of the Isles of Scilly, or
(f)
an eligible parish council;
F2“mayor”, in relation to a mayoral combined authority or mayoral CCA, means the mayor for the area of that authority;
F2“mayoral CCA” has the same meaning as in Chapter 1 of Part 1 of the Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023 — see section 57 of that Act;
F2“mayoral combined authority” has the same meaning as in Part 6 of the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act 2009 — see section 120 of that Act;
“statutory provision” means a provision of an Act or of an instrument made under an Act.

A parish council is “eligible” for the purposes of this Chapter if the council meets the conditions prescribed by the Secretary of State by order for the purposes of this section.
