Chapter 7 E+WEffect of life sentence

277 Interpretation of Chapter 7 E+W

In this Chapter—

• “court” includes [F1 the Court Martial];

• “guidelines” has the same meaning as in section 172(1);

• “life sentence” means—

  (a)

  a sentence of imprisonment for life,

  (b)

  a sentence of detention during Her Majesty’s pleasure, or

  (c)

  a sentence of custody for life passed before the commencement of section 61(1) of the Criminal Justice and Court Services Act 2000 (c. 43) (which abolishes that sentence).
