The Secretary of State mayF1, for the purposes of this Part of this Act, by order designate any institution providing higher education (whether or not it also provides education of any other kind or carries on any other activities).

In this Part of this Act “designated institution” means an institution in relation to which a designation under this section has effect.

An order made under this section may make such amendments of the provisions of any subordinate legislation as appear to the Secretary of State to be necessary or expedient in consequence of such order being made.
