<Pnumber>1</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>The Lord Chancellor shall appoint a person for the purpose of conducting investigations under this Act.</Text>
</P2para>
</P2>
<P2 DocumentURI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1990/41/section/21/2/enacted" IdURI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/ukpga/1990/41/section/21/2" id="section-21-2">
<Pnumber>2</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>The person appointed shall be known as “the Legal Services Ombudsman”.</Text>
</P2para>
</P2>
<P2 DocumentURI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1990/41/section/21/3/enacted" IdURI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/ukpga/1990/41/section/21/3" id="section-21-3">
<Pnumber>3</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>The Legal Services Ombudsman—</Text>
<P3 DocumentURI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1990/41/section/21/3/a/enacted" IdURI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/ukpga/1990/41/section/21/3/a" id="section-21-3-a">
<Pnumber>a</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>shall be appointed for a period of not more than three years; and</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>
<P3 DocumentURI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1990/41/section/21/3/b/enacted" IdURI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/ukpga/1990/41/section/21/3/b" id="section-21-3-b">
<Pnumber>b</Pnumber>
<P3para>
<Text>shall hold and vacate office in accordance with the terms of his appointment.</Text>
</P3para>
</P3>
</P2para>
</P2>
<P2 DocumentURI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1990/41/section/21/4/enacted" IdURI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/ukpga/1990/41/section/21/4" id="section-21-4">
<Pnumber>4</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>At the end of his term of appointment the Legal Services Ombudsman shall be eligible for re-appointment.</Text>
</P2para>
</P2>
<P2 DocumentURI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1990/41/section/21/5/enacted" IdURI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/ukpga/1990/41/section/21/5" id="section-21-5">
<Pnumber>5</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>The Legal Services Ombudsman shall not be an authorised advocate, authorised litigator, licensed conveyancer, authorised practitioner or notary.</Text>
</P2para>
</P2>
<P2 DocumentURI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1990/41/section/21/6/enacted" IdURI="http://www.legislation.gov.uk/id/ukpga/1990/41/section/21/6" id="section-21-6">
<Pnumber>6</Pnumber>
<P2para>
<Text>Schedule 3 shall have effect with respect to the Legal Services Ombudsman.</Text>
