21 Interpretation.

(1)

In this Act, except where the contrary intention appears,—

F1“appropriate F2relevant F2fire authority” has the meaning given by section 3(10) above;

“chief officer of police” has the meaning given by section 3(10) above;

“child” means a person under the age of sixteen;

F3“film exhibition” means any exhibition of moving pictures other than an exhibition of items included in a programme service (within the meaning of the Communications Act 2003) that is being simultaneously received (or virtually so) by the exhibitor

F4“fire authority” has the meaning given by section 3(10) above;

“licence” and references to a licence of either kind shall be construed in accordance with section 3(10) above;

“licensing authority” has the meaning given by section 3(10) above;

“local authority” means—

(a)

in England F5. . ., F6a London borough council, the Common Council of the City of London or a district council;

F7(aa)

in Wales, a county council or a county borough council;

(b)

in Scotland, F8a council constituted under section 2 of the Local Government etc. (Scotland) Act 1994;

Any reference in this Act to an exhibition which requires a licence under section 1 above is a reference to an exhibition to which that section applies; and any reference in this Act to an exhibition which requires a consent under section 2 above is a reference to an exhibition to which that section applies.
