In section 44 of the 1972 Act (obligatory test certificates for vehicles other than goods vehicles to which section 45 applies), after subsection (10) there shall be inserted the following subsection—
“(10A)The Secretary of State may by regulations make provision for the issue, in such circumstances as may be prescribed, of a certificate of temporary exemption in respect of a public service vehicle adapted to carry more than eight passengers, exempting that vehicle from the provisions of subsection (1) above for such period as may be specified in the certificate; and in relation to any public service vehicle so adapted—
(a)subsections (9) and (10) above shall have effect with the substitution of the words " two months " for the words " one month " in each of those subsections ; and
(b)subsection (10) above shall have effect with the substitution of the words " last two months " for the words " last month ".
In this subsection " public service vehicle " has the same meaning as in the [1981 c. 14.] Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981.”.
