[F11C Accommodation of offenders sentenced to detention in a young offender institution.E+W

(1)Subject to section 22(2)(b) of the Prison Act M11952 (removal to hospital etc.), an offender sentenced to detention in a young offender institution [F2or to custody for life] shall be detained in [F3a young offender institution] unless a direction under this section is in force in relation to him.

(2)The Secretary of State may from time to time direct that an offender sentenced to detention in a young offender institution [F2or to custody for life] shall be detained in a prison or remand centre instead of a young offender institution, but if he is[F4under 18] at the time of the direction, only for a temporary purpose.]
