4 Registration areas and functions of assistant registrars in those areas.U.K.

(1)For the purposes of this Act [F1and the 1992 Act] there shall be two registration areas, that is to say,—

(a)the area consisting of England and Wales, [F2Northern Ireland,] the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man; and

(b)Scotland.

(2)Any reference in this Act to the central registration area is a reference to the area specified in subsection (1)(a) above.

[F3(2A)The central office shall maintain separate registers under this Act or, as the case may be, the 1992 Act in relation to societies whose registered offices are in Northern Ireland.]

(3)Within the registration areas for which they are respectively appointed, the assistant registrars shall exercise all functions and powers given by this Act [F4or the 1992 Act] to the registrar and may also, by the written authority of the Chief Registrar, exercise such of the functions and powers given by this Act [F4or the 1992 Act] to the Chief Registrar as he may delegate to them.
