The Scottish Ministers make the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by section 86(2) and (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984

1984 c.27; section 86 was amended by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (c.22), Schedule 9, paragraph 1 and the Scotland Act 2012 (c.11), section 21(10) and (11).

and all other powers enabling them to do so.

In accordance with section 86(9) of that Act, they have consulted with such representative organisations as they thought fit.

In accordance with section 86(8) of that Act, a draft of this instrument has been laid before and approved by resolution of the Scottish Parliament.

Citation and commencement1.

These Regulations may be cited as the HGV Speed Limit (M9/A9 Trunk Road) Regulations 2014 and come into force 7 days after the day on which they are made.

Increased speed limit2.

In Schedule 6 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (speed limits for vehicles of certain classes)

There are amendments to Schedule 6 which are not relevant to this instrument.

For a vehicle falling within class 5(2)(b) above, the maximum speed while the vehicle is being driven on a part of the M9/A9 Trunk Road specified in the Schedule to the HGV Speed Limit (M9/A9 Trunk Road) Regulations 2014 is 50 miles per hour (rather than 40 miles per hour as specified in column 3(c) of the Table above).

Birnam to Ballanluig

From a point 1,905 metres or thereby south of its northern junction with the B867 northwards to a point 717 metres or thereby south of the overbridge with the A827, a distance of 15,865 metres or thereby.

Pitlochry to Faskally

From a point 160 metres or thereby south of the overbridge at its southern junction with the A924 northwards to a point 15 metres or thereby north of the overbridge at its northern junction with the A924, a distance of 3,810 metres or thereby.

Faskally to Killiecrankie

From a point 390 metres or thereby north of the overbridge at its northern junction with the A924 northwards to a point 1,983 metres or thereby north of the overbridge at its northern junction with the A924, a distance of 1,593 metres or thereby.

Killiecrankie to Drumochter

From a point 3,335 metres or thereby south of its southern junction with the B8079 northwards to a point 1,084 metres or thereby south of its junction with the C454, a distance of 21,601 metres or thereby.

Dalnaspidal to Crubenmore

From a point 371 metres or thereby south of its junction with Dalnaspidal Lodge northwards to a point 6,418 metres or thereby south of its junction with the B9150, a distance of 20,272 metres or thereby.

Etteridge to Slochd

From a point 2,744 metres or thereby south of its junction with the B9150 northwards to a point 382 metres or thereby south of its junction with the U2856, a distance of 48,846 metres or thereby.

Tomatin to Moy

From a point 451 metres or thereby south of its junction to the C1121 northwards to a point 3,908 metres or thereby south of its junction with the B851, a distance of 8,925 metres or thereby.
