These Regulations amend the Meat Products (Scotland) Regulations 2004.In implementation of Council Directive 77/99/EEC on health problems affecting the production and marketing of meat products and certain other products of animal origin (the text of which was replaced by the text annexed to Council Directive 92/5/EEC, O.J. No. L 57, 2.3.92, p.1), a provision was included in the Meat Products (Scotland) Regulations 2004 to the effect that where meat products of a specified appearance are sold, for the purposes of the Food Labelling Regulations 1996 (S.I. 1996/1449, as amended) the name used as the name of the food in the labelling of the products must include an indication of any added starch or protein, unless it has been added only for a technological purpose.
Following the repeal of Council Directive 77/99/EEC, these Regulations remove from the list of ingredients which are not required to be indicated in the name of a meat product any starch or protein added only for a technological purpose (regulations 3 and 4).
