Explanatory Note
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations prescribe the size, colour and type of a school crossing patrol sign.
They also revoke the School Crossing Patrol Sign (Scotland) Regulations 2002 on 1st January 2011. Accordingly, before that date a school crossing patrol sign can be in accordance with either the provisions of the 2002 Regulations or these Regulations.
These Regulations are based upon the provisions of the 2002 Regulations. The principal changes are an increase in the permissible size of the perimeter strip and increased flexibility with regard to the colouring and illumination requirements of the patrol signs.
These Regulations were notified in draft to the European Commission in accordance with Directive 98/34/EC (O.J. L 204, 21.7.98, p.37) laying down a procedure for the provision of information in the field of technical standards and regulations as amended by Directive 98/48/EC (O.J. L 217, 5.8.98, p.18). Copies of the Directives can be obtained from the Stationery Office.
A regulatory impact assessment has been prepared in respect of these Regulations. A copy can be obtained from the Scottish Government Transport Directorate, Area 2-F, Victoria Quay, Edinburgh EH6 6QQ.
