This Order may be cited as the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Act 2008 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2008.
Appointed day2.
The appointed day for the coming into force of sections 41 and 42 of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Act 2008 is 20th June 2008.

This Order appoints 20th June 2008 as the day on which sections 41 and 42 of the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Act 2008 (the “2008 Act”) will come into force. Sections 43 and 47 to 51 of the 2008 Act came into force on Royal Assent, which was granted on 10th June 2008.
Section 41 of the 2008 Act allows the Scottish Ministers to provide for funding and other assistance to Glasgow 2014 Limited, the Organising Committee of the Commonwealth Games that are to take place principally in Glasgow in 2014 (“the Games”).
Section 42 of the 2008 Act modifies Part 8 of the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997 (c. 8) to allow the compulsory acquisition of land where that land is suitable for and required in order to facilitate the holding of the Games.
