Their Lordships make the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred upon Them by sections 48 and 60 of the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992(1) and all other powers enabling Them to do so.
1. This Order may be cited as the Academic Awards and Distinctions (UHI Millennium Institute) (Scotland) Order of Council 2008 and comes into force on 1st August 2008.
2. In this Order–
“the Act” means the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992; and
“the Institution” means the UHI Millennium Institute.
3.—(1) The Institution is specified as competent to grant all degrees, diplomas, certificates or other academic awards or distinctions as may be granted in pursuance of section 48(2) and (3) of the Act other than in respect of completion of a programme of supervised research.
(2) The date specified for the purpose of section 48(2)(a) of the Act is 1st August 2008.
(3) If the name of the Institution is changed the competence to grant any of the degrees, diplomas, certificates or other academic awards or distinctions specified in paragraph (1) shall continue to apply to the Institution as re-named.

This Order gives the UHI Millennium Institute the power to grant degrees, diplomas, certificates and other academic awards or distinctions except where the award or distinction, of whatever description, is made on completion of a programme of supervised research.
Article 3(2) provides that the institution may grant such awards and distinctions in respect of courses and programmes of study completed on or after 1st August 2008.
