The Adoption (Intercountry Aspects) Act 1999 (Commencement No. 7) (Scotland) Order 2002

The Scottish Ministers, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 18(3) of the Adoption (Intercountry Aspects) Act 19991, hereby make the following Order:

Citation and extent1.

(1)

This Order may be cited as the Adoption (Intercountry Aspects) Act 1999 (Commencement No. 7) (Scotland) Order 2002.

(2)

This Order extends to Scotland only.

Appointed day2.

14th January 2003 is the day appointed for the coming into force of the following provisions of the Adoption (Intercountry Aspects) Act 1999:–

(a)

section 1 (regulations giving effect to Convention); and

(b)

section 12 (registration of certain intercountry adoptions) insofar as it amends the Adoption (Scotland) Act 19782.

This Order, which extends to Scotland only, brings into force on 14th January 2003 the following provisions of the Adoption (Intercountry Aspects) Act 1999:–

  • Section 1 (which enables the Scottish Ministers to make regulations which give effect to the 1993 Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Co-operation in respect of Intercountry Adoptions which was concluded at the Hague on 29th May 1993); and

  • Section 12 (which amends the Adoption (Scotland) Act 1978).
