These Regulations specify certain baits and lures for the purposes of the definition of “rod and line” in section 24(1) of the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries (Protection) (Scotland) Act 1951. The specification applies to the whole of the River Forth salmon fishery district.
Regulation 2(1) specifies organic bait (as defined in regulation 1(2)), regulation 2(2) specifies lures having more than one hook (other than a lone double, or a lone treble, hook) and regulation 3 specifies natural prawns and shrimps.
The specification of organic bait and lures having more than one hook applies for part of the year. The specification of natural shrimps and prawns applies throughout the year. The Regulations revoke the River Forth Salmon Fishery District (Baits and Lures) Regulations 1996 (regulation 4). The prohibitions contained in these Regulations are re-enacted in regulation 3.
The effect of the Regulations is to prohibit the use of those baits and lures when fishing by rod and line for salmon or sea trout.
