Explanatory Note
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
The Breeding and Sale of Dogs (Welfare) Act 1999 creates certain offences in relation to the sale of a dog which is not wearing a collar with an identifying tag or badge. Section 8(5) of that Act defines “identifying tag or badge” as a tag or badge which clearly displays information indicating the licensed breeding establishment at which it was born and any other information required by Regulations.
These Regulations, which apply to Scotland only, set out the additional information which must be displayed on the tag or badge.
1999 c. 11. These functions of the Secretary of State were transferred to the Scottish Ministers by virtue of the Scotland Act 1998 (Transfer of Functions to the Scottish Ministers etc.) (No. 2) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/3321)
