Coming into operation
The Department of Health1, in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 64(2) of the Mental Health (Northern Ireland) Order 19862, makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement1.

This Order may be cited as the Mental Health (1986 Order) (Amendment No. 2) Order (Northern Ireland) 2021 and shall come into operation on 10th May 2021.

Amendment of Article 64(1)(b) of the Mental Health (Northern Ireland) Order 19862.

In Article 64(1)(b)3, for “six months” substitute “three months”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order varies the length of the period which must elapse for a second opinion to be required for the continued administration of medicine to detained patients from six months to three months.
