The Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 (Designated Places of Detention: Lay Visitors) Order 2015

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 73(10)(a) of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 20001 makes the following Order:

1.

This Order may be cited as the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 (Designated Places of Detention: Lay Visitors) Order 2015 and comes into force on 1st March 2015.

That part of Musgrave Police Station that is for the time being designated under paragraph 1 of Schedule 8 to the Terrorism Act 2000 2 (place of detention), being so much of Musgrave Police Station as is needed to detain persons under section 41 of, or Schedule 7 to, the Terrorism Act 20003, is specified as a designated place of detention for the purposes of section 73 of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 (places of detention: lay visitors).

EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)

Under section 73 of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000 lay visitors may only visit a place of detention designated by the Secretary of State under Paragraph 1 of Schedule 8 to the Terrorism Act 2000 (to hold terrorist suspects or persons detained under Schedule 7 to that Act), if it has been designated by Order as a place they may visit.

This Order designates that part of Musgrave Police Station that is for the time being designated by the Secretary of State under paragraph 1 of Schedule 8 to the Terrorism Act 2000, as a place of detention that may be visited by lay visitors.

An impact assessment has not been produced for this Order as no impact on business or the voluntary sector is foreseen.
