EXPLANATORY NOTE
(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into operation on 1st May 2012, insofar as not already in operation, the following provisions of the Sunbeds Act (Northern Ireland) 2011:

  • section 1 prohibition on allowing use of sunbeds by persons under 18;

  • section 2 prohibition on sale or hire of sunbeds to persons under 18;

  • section 3 prohibition on allowing unsupervised use of sunbeds;

  • section 4 duty on sunbed operators, hirers and sellers to provide information to sunbed users, or buyers etc.;

  • section 5 duty on sunbed operators to display an information notice;

  • section 6 prohibition on the provision or display of other information;

  • section 7 provision of protective eyewear;

  • section 10 exemption for medical treatment;

  • section 11 enforcement by district councils;

  • section 12 fixed penalties for certain offences;

  • section 13 obstruction of authorised officers;

  • section 15 offences by bodies corporate etc;

  • section 16 regulations;

  • Schedule 1 powers of authorised officers; and

  • Schedule 2 fixed penalties.
