The Department of the Environment makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by Articles 65(1) and 110(2) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1995(1).

Citation and Commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Goods Vehicles (Testing) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2011 and shall come into operation on 6th January 2012.

Amendment of the Goods Vehicles (Testing) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003

2.  In regulation 6(g) of the Goods Vehicles (Testing) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003(2) (conditions of acceptance of vehicle) for sub-paragraphs (i) and (ii) substitute—

(i)in the case of a vehicle which has been registered under the 1994 Act, the chassis or serial number shown in the registration document relating to the vehicle; or

(ii)in the case of a trailer, either—

(aa)the identification mark allotted to the vehicle by the Department; or

(bb)an identification mark allotted to the vehicle by the Secretary of State for Transport;.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Goods Vehicles (Testing) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2003 to provide for the introduction of a new system of issuing large trailers with individual logging numbers for type approval purposes. They substitute regulation 6(g)(i) and (ii) to provide that a trailer must be affixed with an identification mark, issued by either the Department of the Environment or the Secretary of State for Transport, before it is accepted for testing.
